P<\/span>oster<\/span>\u00a0House\u00a0<\/span>is proud to call itself<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>the first museum in the United States dedicated exclusively to posters<\/span>\u201d<\/span>. The museum was founded in 2015 but has only recently opened its doors to the public (20<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0June 2019). It aims to showcase posters from around the globe, marking important historical eras. Within its recent collections you can see posters from the 2017 Women\u2019s March, hand-crafted movie posters from Ghana, and posters of the Japan Red Cross society. This unique and diverse collection aims to\u00a0<\/span>explore the \u201cintersection of art and commerce\u201d through showcasing beautiful artistry while commenting on each poster\u2019s historical significance.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You can visit Poster House between 11am<\/span><\/i>\u2013<\/span><\/i>6pm every day except Tuesday (when it is closed to the public). Adult tickets are $12<\/span><\/i>\u00a0(\u00a39.32)*<\/span><\/i>, and it is free for members and under 18s.\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2. The London\u00a0Transport\u00a0Museum<\/h2>\n

This impressive collection claims to \u201ccontain some of the best examples of posters as an art form anywhere in the world\u201d. As you can imagine, th<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0collection revolves around public transport and how posters have been used to\u00a0<\/span>promote transportation systems over the years. If you can\u2019t visit this collection in\u00a0<\/span>person but<\/span>\u00a0a<\/span>r<\/span>e interested in what the London Transport Museum has to offer, you\u2019re in luck! There are over\u00a0<\/span>5,000 designs and 800 original artworks are\u00a0<\/span>available online<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Like New York\u2019s Poster House, this museum\u00a0<\/span>focusses on the role of posters in cultural history. A recent exhibition for example, revolve<\/span>d<\/span>\u00a0around Cuban posters of the 1960s and 1970s, comparing and\u00a0<\/span>contrasting them to\u00a0<\/span>poster art in Poland and Czechoslovakia<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0This museum is also the home to the international Poster Biennale which sets out to celebrate the artistic value of graphic posters, rather than just viewing them as a tool for propaganda.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Focussing on all \u201cart on paper\u201d design, this museum doesn\u2019t exclusively display posters, but\u00a0<\/span>it\u00a0<\/span>is a great day out for any graphic design enthusiasts. It boasts classic drawings by huge names including Botticelli, Van Gogh, Picasso and Warhol. The\u00a0<\/span>Kupferstichkabinett<\/span>\u00a0is the largest museum of graphic arts in Germany and is unmissable for any poster enthusiasts visiting the country.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This museum is open Tuesday to Friday 10am<\/span><\/i>\u2013<\/span><\/i>6pm, and Saturday<\/span><\/i>\u2013<\/span><\/i>Sunday 11am<\/span><\/i>\u2013<\/span><\/i>6pm. Rather than showcasing posters, or graphic art as such, this unusual museum in Crete specialises in typography. After years of collecting and curating artefacts related to typography, the museum was inaugurated in May 2005, under the authority of the newspaper \u2018<\/span>Haniotika\u00a0Nea<\/span>\u2019. It has exhibited rich and intriguing collections through the years, such as \u2018<\/span>the History of Writing<\/span>\u2019<\/span>\u00a0and the\u00a0<\/span>\u2018<\/span>Development of Typography and Graphic Arts<\/span>\u2019. Any poster enthusiast with a historical leaning will love this museum, as it gives visitors an insight into how typography has evolved and played its part in the creation of iconic posters throughout time.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
