Oymyakon, in the Siberian region of Yakutia, is the coldest inhabited village on Earth (there are colder places in Antarctica, but they are unpopulated).
On 14 January 2018, in Oymyakon, a brand new thermometer crashed after measuring an astonishing -62°C, reports the Siberian Times.
For the 500 people living in this village, it’s not unusual to have these temperatures. During winter, there’s an average of -45°C.
But it’s in February of 1933 that this town recorded a shocking -67.7°C, being since then the lowest temperature ever recorded in the world for an inhabited place.
So, don’t complain about the current freeze in your area and enjoy these amazing pictures of the coldest village on earth!
